At Build Education, we believe every child deserves access to personalised learning, no matter their background or the challenges they face.
This month marked an important step forward in that mission. In partnership with Dorothy Springer Trust and One Family People, Build Education, powered by Qinect, began piloting inclusive AI tutors in Sierra Leone. These early pilots are helping bridge learning gaps and give students the confidence to learn independently, even in classrooms with limited resources.
During live workshops at Government Municipal Secondary School and Bishop Johnson Memorial School in Freetown, students such as Hawanatu, who lives with clubfoot, and Rugiatu, who was affected by polio, engaged directly with our AI Tutor. They asked questions, took notes, and showed remarkable curiosity and enthusiasm. Teachers observed how quickly students adapted to the technology, with many showing renewed motivation to learn after just a short session.
The pilot also helped us gather crucial insights to refine the AI Tutor for Sierra Leone’s education system. We’re now simplifying language, introducing elements of Krio, and adapting lesson flows to better reflect how students learn locally.
Alongside these classroom pilots, we recently met with the team at DSTI Sierra Leone to explore ways of aligning our AI Tutor with national education priorities. DSTI’s extensive experience in digital learning and education technology offers a strong foundation for potential collaboration, helping ensure that innovation and inclusion move hand in hand.
With plans already underway to expand to more schools, this marks the beginning of a new chapter for inclusive education in Sierra Leone – one that builds on the incredible work already happening across the country.
The future of learning is inclusive, adaptive, and built for every learner.
